The Season Ends

Regionals
The Warriors season came to an end today with a 5-1 loss to Montini. Ryan Kramer got the start for the Warriors and pitched well expect for two pitches. Those two pitches combined for three runs for Montini and the Broncos did not look back from there. Matt Brandys had the only RBI for the Warriors with a RBI single in the bottom of the second. JD Joiner was the only Warriors with multiple hits, he went 2-3 with two singles.
Top of the First: 0-0
Ryan Kramer gets the start and goes 1,2,3
Bottom of the First: 0-0
McNally leads off the inning with a single but is called out when interference is called on Jake Cousins. The Warriors do not score.
Top of the Second: 0-0
Kramer allows a double and a walk but does not harm him. Still knotted at 0-0
Bottom of the Second: 1-0
Sandberg ropes a single and then steals second. Matt Brandys digs in and ropes a RBI single for the first run of the game.
Top of the Third: 1-3
The inning is lead off with an infield single and the next batter pounds a two run home run to left field giving Montini the lead. Kramer then gets a fly out and then allows a single. He picks the runner off in a rundown but then allows another home run.
Bottom of the Third: 1-3
Nothing doing for the Warriors.
Top of the Fourth: 1-3
Swaney comes in for the Warriors and shuts down the Broncos going 1,2,3
Bottom of the Fourth: 1-3
Joiner ropes a single but Warriors cannot bring him home. I am joined by a Wheaton Academy student who vents about the annoying sound affects during the game. The affects are annoying, but complaining during a hard game just makes things worse.

Top of the Fifth: 1-3
Swaney gets two groundballs and a strikeout to start off the inning. After a long at bat the umpire’s ran out of baseballs because there were so many foul shots.
Bottom of the Fifth: 1-3
Boggs hits a single and then advances to third on an over throw. But the theme of this game, the Warriors can not capitalize.
Top of the Sixth: 1-3
Swaney goes 1,2,3
Bottom of the Sixth: 1-3
Swaney and Joiner both get singles. Swaney advances to third on a fly ball hit by Fritz. With ducks on the pond, the Warriors cannot capitalize.
Top of the Seventh: 1-5
Montini seals the deal scoring two more runs in the top of the seventh.
Bottom of the Seventh: 1-5
Boggs reaches base on an error and McNally reaches on a HBP but once again are not brought home. Warriors are eliminated from regionals.

Warriors Win on Senior Day 13-3

WA Wins 13-3 on Senior Day
The Warriors had Senior day on Saturday and finished the regular season with a 13-3 victory. With the victory the Warriors won 20 games reaching a goal set by Coach Byrne for this season. Seniors Tate Fritz and David Sapyta had big days for the Warriors. Sapyta had a huge triple in the third inning bringing home three runs and Tate Fritz hit a three run home run. The other Seniors JD Joiner, Ryan Kramer and Luke Thorson all saw action. The Warriors biggest inning was in the bottom of the third when they scored nine runs! Here are some of the hits on the inning: Sapyta with a 3 RBI triple, McNally an RBI single, Sandberg and RBI double, Boggs got an RBI single, Swaney and RBI single, Joiner and RBI double, and McKenna walked plating a run. Trevor Swaney had another great game going 2-3 with two RBI’s and Luke Boggs also tacked on two RBI’s. Chicago U High had more errors than hits, with seven errors and four hits. The Warriors next game is Wednesday for Regionals. The information is not known yet but I will post information when it comes!

Warriors Win Confrence with 9-4 Win

WA vs Montini
The Warriors came into Montini and got the first conference title in school history with a 9-4 win. The Warriors played longball hitting three home runs, thanks to Sandberg, Fritz, and Joiner. All three of them have been hitting the cover off of the ball recently and really stepped up today. In the words of Coach Byrne “we started out poor, our infield and outfield was horrible but we got five runs in the first which covered for us.” Once again Swaney came out and pitched an awesome game. With the win, Swaney moves to 6-1 and has filled Matt Brandys role very well. “He really battled today and had great stuff today.” said Coach. The Warriors next game is Senior Day on Saturday against Chicago U High. Then in two weeks the Warriors play regional’s. Some teams that are in the same regional are: St. Francis, Montini, and Marmion. All teams are tough but we have stayed in the game against them and should continue to reach our goals. The Warriors are continuing closer to the goal of getting 20 wins and winning regionals. Currently they are 18-10 and with wins on Saturday and Wednesday can attain the goal of winning 20 games!

Top of the Seventh- 9-3
Ryan Kramer led off the inning with a double and then is driven home by a JD Joiner RBI single. Tate then drives in Joiner with a single. Drew gets a single and eventually the bases are loaded, but they are not able to convert. The Warriors pretty much seal the win.

Bottom of the Seventh- 9-4
Swaney is going for the complete game and allows two quick singles to the inning. Runners are advanced to second and third and then the Broncos get a run on a fielder’s choice from Swaney. The run did not affect him though and he strikes the last man out to get Wheaton Academy’s first conference title.

WA Wins on Moyo Night

Warriors vs. Westminster
The Warriors played their second game at Kane County Stadium and pulled out a 3-1 win against Westminster and advanced to 17-10. The Warriors played against maybe the toughest pitcher they may see this year. Scouts from Northwestern University came to scout him for this game actually! In the first inning he was throwing low 90’s and hit 92 on the radar gun. However he was the second best pitcher in this game, Max Ishikawa pitched a masterpiece of a game going seven innings only allowing one hit and one run. Coach Byrne says “Max was huge today, he asked to go the distance, and we kept him in and finished them off. He pitched ahead in the count all day and really picked us up.” Tate Fritz provided big time for the Warriors when he hit a triple scoring two runs. Trevor Swaney also knocked in a run and continued his great play. He gets the start tomorrow against Montini and the Warriors look to win conference. Coach Byrne spoke very highly of Trevor, “Trevor has been huge recently. There is not a better pitcher in the area.” Come out to Montini and support the Warriors as they seek to come in first place in conference for the first time in Wheaton Academy history!

Warriors Lose 2nd Straight

WA Falls to Riverside-Brookfield
The Warriors lose their second straight in a close one to Riverside-Brookfield 2-1. The Warriors only run came from a solo home run, courtesy of Tate Fritz. Jerry Budzisz pitched a complete game for the Warriors. Allowing only two runs on five hits, but the lack of offensive production lost the game. Trevor Swaney was the only Warriors to get more than one hit going 2-3 with two singles. With the current losing streak, the Warriors are 16-10. The Warriors have a big game on Monday against Westminster at Kane County Field. I was wrong in my other post because this game is Moyo Night rather than April 29th. The Warriors will be wearing orange jerseys in honor of Ndondi High School with proceeds going to Moyo. Come out and support the Warriors Monday at 7!

WA Loses 11-7 to Marion Cental

WA Loses to Marion Central
The Warriors lost a tough one to Marion Central 11-7. IN the words of a player “we sucked today.” Marian had a huge third inning scoring eight runs and did not look back from there. Drew Sandberg had a huge game for the Warriors going 2-2 with three RBI’s and a home run. Ryan Kramer had a rough day allowing ten runs over two innings but Max Ishikawa came in and stopped the bleeding only allowing one run from there on out.  The big story was that the Warriors committed SIX errors. This was the problem for the Warriors today “Kramer pitched fine but we did not play defense” said Alec McNally when asked about the game. The Warriors next game is tomorrow at Riverside Brookfield.

WA Takes the Double Header From St. Ed's

Today the Warriors beat the Green Wave 2-1 in the first game and then 10-7 in the second game. With the double header win, the Warriors move to 16-8, start a three game winning streak and sweep the Green Wave this season. The next game is tomorrow against Marian Central Catholic at 430.
In the first game the Warriors got beat once again in the hit total, 8-4, but that did not affect the outcome. The Warriors scored their two runs in the bottom of the fifth which was all they needed to beat St. Edwards. McNally and Molloy got the two RBI’s for the Warriors McNally has been hot recently contributing two huge RBI’s in the last two games. He also got the start and win in this game. McNally pitched a complete game, allowed eight hits and only one run.
In the second game it was a similar story except the Warriors pounded out 13 hits scoring ten runs! There were two home runs for the Warriors, a three-run-home run for Tate Fritz and a solo home run from Luke Molloy. JD Joiner kept the hot bat going 3-3 with three RBI’s. Alec McNally was 2-4 with two runs and Drew Sandberg was 2-4 with two RBI’s. Jerry Budzisz got the start and had a tough time allowing four runs over two innings but was relieved by Johnny Schmitz and Derek Enger. Schmitz got the win and Enger got the save for the Warriors.

Warriors Split Series with AC Winning 3-1

WA Splits with AC
In the season finale the Warriors defeated Aurora Christian 3-1. The Warriors only got three hits compared to AC’s five but were able to ultimately get the win. The three runs were scored by Mike Kuppler, Alec McNally, and Trevor Swaney. Both Swaney and McNally had RBI’s to compliment the run. Trevor Swaney pitched another great outing, pitching a complete game only allowing five hits with one run and seven strikeouts. This game was littered with errors, with a total of eight. Five came from AC and the other three obviously came from us. The Warriors play next against Saint Edwards and have a double header at home. Next game after that comes against Marian Central Catholic on Thursday. Once again my caddy training gets in the way :-p. Come out at support the Warriors even if I can’t! Warriors move to 14-8 and hope to get a winning streak going.

Warriors Lose to AC 4-0

WA vs AC
The Warriors faced a tough matchup today against Aurora Christian. Unfortunately the Warriors got shutout today only getting one hit today! I wish there was more to right about but I mean there is not a whole lot besides we had an off day and lost 4-0. Drew Sandberg got the only hit compared to AC’s eight hits. Derek Enger got the start and pitched alright allowing four runs on eight hits striking out three. When you only get one hit it is hard to win ball games and today is a prime example of it. The next game is tomorrow at Wheaton Academy against AC at 430. Come out and support the group!! I cannot unfortunately I have caddie training :-p. Warriors move to 13-8 with this loss.
