WA vs. IC
It was a very cold and windy day which showed in the batting performance. Both pitchers pitched great but the Warriors Trevor Swaney ended up with the win. Swaney pitched a complete game, had seven strikeouts, and no walks. Coach Byrne said Swaney was “clutch” and “saved us from burning another arm.” This was a boring and slow game that did not involve a run till the seventh inning. It started out with a single to left by Trevor Swaney, and then Ryan Kramer singled moving the pinch runner JD Joiner to third. Then Jake Cousins dug in and stroked a single to left field bringing JD Joiner home on a walk off hit. The Warriors only had five singles provided by, McNally, Fritz, Cousins, Swaney and Sandberg. Coach Byrne believes this is a huge win in the Warriors loft goals, “This is a huge win for us. Last year we were no hit by this team and they went to state. We figured going into this year we were going to need to split the series with them to win conference. This is huge especially after the Florida trip.” When asked about the keys to the victory he said, “We did the little things right. Swaney threw strikes, we had timely hitting and we did not have any errors.” With the 1-0 win the Warriors improve to 4-3 and look to sweep IC tomorrow.
