WA vs. Marmion
Here is my running blog from the game.
Top of the First: 0-0
Brandys gets off to a good start with two strikeouts and a ground out. A bit chillier than I thought.
Bottom of the First: 0-0
Marmion’s south paw Chris Simon shows some great off speed pitches as he retires Sandberg, McNally, and Brandys 1, 2, 3.
Top of the Second: Marmion 1-0
Brandys begins with a walk then the runner steals second. A fly out to right advances the runner to third. JD Joiner makes a great sliding catch in foul territory for the second out. Next batter reaches second with a fielding error and the runner on third advances home. Brandys gets out of the inning with a ground ball.
Bottom of the Second: 1-0 Marmion
Simon gets three ground outs on a mixture of change ups and curveballs. I am realizing a t-shirt is not the best idea. Shout out to the Brandys family who lent me a blanket and a jacket.
Top of the third: 1-0 Marmion
An unfortunate inning for Brandys; He began with two quick outs and had a third on a drop strike three but a throwing error on McNally puts a runner on first. The runner then steals second. Then attempts to steal third and appeared to be out but the umpire called him safe. With a runner on third Brandys gets a ground out to end the inning. The Marmion batter, while running to first, throws an elbow at Tate Fritz that is seen by everyone but the umpires. Despite many pitches, Brandys gets out of a jam.
Bottom of the Third: 1-0 Marmion
The batting struggles continue for the Warriors. Cousins is the first to reach base after getting hit, Joiner hits into a fielder’s choice and is picked off at first as Alec Lochridge strikes out. Mrs. Kuppler notices my attire and the baseball team moms get a good laugh out poor dressing. Pretty Embarrassing.
Top of the Fourth: 1-0 Marmion
The inning begins with an error on Mike Kuppler but is erased after solid pitching from Brandys.
Bottom of the Fourth: 1-0 Marmion
Sandberg strikes out looking but then McNally strokes the first hit for the Warriors into right field, but is stranded as Brandys and Fritz both ground out.
Top of the Fifth: 1-0 Marmion
The amount of pitches is taking a toll on Brandys, but gets two ground outs and a strikeout. Derek Enger warms up but I do not.
Bottom of the Fifth: 1-0 Marmion
Struggles continue as the Warriors are held hitless by Simon again.
Top of the sixth: 2-0 Marmion
Brandys starts the inning with a walk and hits a batter, and then Enger comes in. His first pitch is wild and moves the runner to second and third. Then the runner from third scores on a sacrifice fly increasing the lead to 2-0. But Enger bounces back and strikes out the final batter.
Bottom of the sixth: 2-0 Marmion
Sandberg leads off with a single and then steals second. By this time I am praying that the rest of the game goes quickly because I have lost feeling in my toes, legs, and fingers I am so cold. Note to self always bring a jacket for any WA baseball game. Unfortunate for the Warriors but fortunate for my health the others are retired 1,2,3.
Top of the seventh: 2-0 Marmion
Enger goes 1,2,3. Praise God.
Bottom of the seventh: 2-0 Marmion
The Warriors go 1,2,3 and I make a mad dash to my car and blast my heat. What a blogger will do for his team.
The weather played a huge factor in batting. There were a total of three hits, two from the Warriors and one from Marmion. The Warriors had two errors opposed to none for Marmion. The Warriors play again Saturday at the WA Baseball Field at 130.
