WA Beats ACC for the Second Time 12-7

WA vs. ACC
The Warriors played ACC for the second time this year and continued their great play. They won today 12-7 anchored by solid hitting. He pitched very solid despite having a shaky seventh inning where he allowed four of his seven runs. His offense helped him through though scoring twelve runs with seven RBI’s coming from Sandberg, Kramer, and Joiner. Joiner has been hot recently, with five RBI’s over the last nine games. Warriors move to 13-7 with the win and play at Aurora Christian on Monday. Here is the running blog for the game.
Top of the First: 0-0
Max starts off the day strong getting two groundouts and a pop out to end the top of the first.
Bottom of the First: 1-0
Tate Fritz comes up with a big RBI single to give the Warriors an early lead. 1-0 Warriors.
Top of the Second: 1-0
Max continues good pitching showing affective use of the curveball and off speed pitches getting three ground outs. His accuracy is great keeping the ball low in the strike zone and getting plenty of ground outs. Five of his six outs have come on ground balls!
Bottom of the Second: 1-0
Warriors go 1,2,3. I am joined by Noelle and Kianna this inning. On a foul ball it appeared as if it was going to land close to where I was sitting. My first reaction was to run, so I did. TO my dismay I was the only person in the stands who freaked out. Embarrassed and trying to recover my dignity I return to my blogging.
Top of the Third: 1-2
Ishikawa gets in a little trouble here allowing two walks and then a two run home to give ACC the lead. Chargers take the lead 2-1.
Bottom of the Third: 1-2
Warriors load the bases but do not score. Something amusing I noticed is that Drew Sandberg has a ton of power! He hit a foul ball of the top of the White Chapel! Wow!
Top of the Fourth: 1-3
The Chargers get one more run a solo shot to right. Max recovers and gets two more groundouts and a pop out.

Bottom of the Fourth: 9-3
The Warriors erupt this inning scoring eight runs! Drew Sandberg hit a three run homerun (did I call that or did I not?) and Ryan Kramer had a two run double leading the way.
Top of the Fifth: 9-3
Max gets into a jam putting runners in scoring position but on an attempted bunt, Alec McNally made a great throw to get the runner going to first and ending the inning.
Bottom of the Fifth: 11-3
The Warriors load the bases for JD Joiner who ropes a double scoring two more runs, increasing the lead to 11-3. The most entertainment this inning happened to be coming from Trevor Swaney’s brother who was playing show off for the ladies. Atta boy.
Top of the Sixth: 11-3
Max retires ACC 1,2,3. Swaney’s little brother is dazzling me with an amazing imitation of a horse, tree, and gives flowers to all the teenage girls in the stands! Boys is you need a date to Junior Senior talk to this little guy he knows what he is doing!
Bottom of the Sixth: 12-3
McKenna and Boggs lead off the inning with singles and McKenna scores on Luke Molloy’s RBI single. Then Jerry grounds into a double play. Great. Just kidding Jerry it is all in good fun.
Top of the Seventh: 12-7
Max gets off to a shaky start to the inning allowing a double, two run homer, single, double, and a two run single. The Warriors defense that had held up all day began to get a little sloppy. But Max comes up with a big ground ball to get a double play and seal the deal. Warriors win.

On Moyo Night, Warriors Beat St. Francis

WA vs. St. Francis
It was Moyo night for the Warriors and they wore orange jerseys in honor of Ndondi high school. For those who do not know what Ndondi is, at Wheaton Academy we are raising money to build a high school over in Africa. The game also happened to be played in Kane County Stadium home of the Kane County Cougars (minor league team for the Oakland Athletics).  The Warriors needed nine innings to beat their rival St. Francis. The Warriors played well scoring five runs in top of the ninth to solidify a 7-2 victory. Despite getting a no decision, Ryan Kramer pitched well for Warriors going six innings, allowing two runs and striking out three. The winning pitcher was Trevor Swaney; he pitched the final three innings allowing only one hit and did not allow a run. Alec McNally and JD Joiner had huge days at the plate. McNally went 3-5 had 2 RBI’s and JD Joiner was 2-3 with two doubles and 2 RBI’s also. With the wins the Warriors increase their record to 13-7 overall and 12-3 in state. The Warriors next game is Saturday against ACC at one.

Warriors Win 4-3
The Warriors beat Aurora Central Catholic today by the score of 4-3. Derek Enger got the win and pitched a solid game pitching four innings and allowing eight hits for three runs. Cousins had a great day pitching three innings allowed one hit and did not allow a run. Trevor Swaney continued his excellent play going 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. Over the last four games Swaney has a total of 12 RBI’s! Other notables were Drew Sandberg who was 1-4 with a RBI and Luke Boggs who was 2-2 with two runs. The Warriors next game is against Aurora Christian 430 at Wheaton Academy. Warriors are 11-3 in state and 12-7 overall.

Warriors Beat Marshall in Double Header

Warriors Destroy Marshall in a Double Header
The Warriors played a double header this weekend against Marshall High School. In these two games the Warriors scored a combined 40 runs! In the first game the Warriors won 20-0 and won by the slaughter rule. They started out strong, scoring 19 runs in the first two innings of the game! Some big performances came from Trevor Swaney, Luke Boggs and Luke Thorson. Swaney was 1-2 with four RBI’s, Boggs was 2-3 with three RBI’s and Thorson was 1-2 with two RBI’s. Max Ishikawa took the win for the Warriors pitching three innings, struck out five, allowed one hit and did not allow a walk. Jerry Budzisz also saw some action pitching two innings, allowing one hit and did not allow a walk.
In the second game the Warriors destroyed Marshall again, winning 20-10. The fourth inning was huge for the Warriors, scoring 12 runs. JD Joiner, Jake Cousins, Tate Fritz and Trevor Swaney all had big games. In this game, Cousins was 2-4 with four RBI’s, Fritz was 1-3 with a three run home run, and Swaney was 2-2 with three RBI’s. The biggest performance came from JD Joiner who was 4-4 with five RBI’s. Budzisz took the win pitching 3.2 innings and striking out seven.
The Warriors next game is Monday at Aurora Christian. This is one of the games highlighted by Coach Byrne as huge at the beginning of the season. With this double header win the Warriors advance to 10-3 in state.
HAPPY EASTER!

Warriors Fall to Chicago Christian, but Keep Their Cool

Warriors Lose to Chicago Christian
I would like to start out this blog post with a shout out to Coach Byrne, Coach Witt and Coach D (I am not sure how to spell your last name coach sorry). Despite calls that did not go the team’s way and poor sportsmanship, both of our coaches kept their cool and really made me and our school proud. Thanks to Coach Byrne, Coach Witt and Coach D for the class, humility, and incredible sportsmanship. Despite a tough lose, our coaches were a light to our school and faith in Christ.
The Warriors lost a tough game to the Knights of Chicago Christian today. According to Coach Byrne the Warriors lost because of slipping on the “little things.” “Things like letting balls get over our heads, missing the cutoff man, and not adjusting to the umpire’s strike zone really hurt us today.” Trevor Swaney had a big day going 2-3 (reached on an error) and drove in three runs. He also pitched well allowing only two runs. McKenna and Joiner continued their strong hitting performances, they both had RBI’s and McKenna hit a home run. Unfortunately the Warriors blew a late lead and lost a tough one.

Top of the First:  0-1
Trevor Swaney gets the start for the Warriors and has a tough first inning. He got two quick outs then allowed a single. A passed ball and a single set up runners on first and third. Another passed ball allows the first run to score, then a walk and single load the bases. Swaney throws a low fastball and gets the batter to line out to end the inning.
Bottom of the First: 0-1
McNally leads off with a single but is stranded at first. Chicago Christian’s pitcher does not seem to have a very strong fastball but shows good placement by throwing it low and getting Swaney and Brandys to ground out.
Top of the Second: 0-1
Swaney shows a great recovery and gets the Knights to go 1,2,3. Sorry to keep talking about the weather but Mrs. Kuppler approved of my winter jacket and winter hat. I came prepared today! I wore a sweater, a sweatshirt, a spring jacket, a winter jacket, gloves and a winter hat. Yep just spring in Illinois, no biggie.
Bottom of the Second: 1-1
The inning is highlighted by John McKenna pounding a solo home run to left field. Chicago Christian’s pitcher left a high fastball and McKenna smoked it over the left field wall.
Top of the Third: 1-1
Swaney gets a strike out but after an error and a single, runners advance to first and third. Swaney keeps his cool though and gets a pop out to end the inning.
Bottom of the Third: 3-1
Kramer McNally and Sandberg lead off the inning with singles and Kramer and McNally score on a two run single by Swaney. Warriors get two and take the lead.
Top of the Fourth: 3-1
Swaney allows a single to begin the inning but that is erased after a great pick-off-move. No damage done and the score remains.
Bottom of the Fourth: McNally singles but is thrown out trying to steal second. To say the least it was one of the most awkward slides I have seen!
Top of the Fifth: 3-2
The game took a strange toll at this part of the game. The Chicago Christian bench during Swaney’s wind up started to make a roaring/woofing type noise. To me it sounded like a group of whining Teradactals. To say that it was annoying is a major understatement! Now for those how do not understand why this is important I have an analogy. Doing this while someone is pitching is like someone yelling in a golfer’s backswing. It is very distracting and can affect the outcome of the shot, or in this case pitch. It is not exactly the same but you get a picture of what it is like. It did not bother Swaney too much. He allowed a run in the inning but escaped the inning allowing only one run.
Bottom of the Fifth: 4-2
The Warriors tack on another run thanks to an RBI single by JD Joiner. Joiner keeps up his hot hitting with that single and gives the Warriors a bigger gap in their lead.
Top of the Sixth: 4-2
The roaring/screaming/whining continues but Swaney is unfazed. He allows a hit but no damage is done.
Bottom of the Sixth: 5-2
Drew Sandberg drills a double to get the inning going. Trevor Swaney brings Sandberg home with an RBI single to give the Warriors a three run lead.
Top of the Seventh: 5-7
Matt Brandys comes in to close the game for the Warriors. The roaring seemed to be louder and more noticeable in this inning. Unfortunately its intended purpose was a success this inning. The Knights scored five runs as the bats came alive this inning. Despite the poor sportsmanship, our coaches and team stayed under control, well done team.
Bottom of the Seventh: 5-7
The Warriors are retired and lose a heart breaker.

Warriors defeat Gators 8-2 and Improve to 7-1 in State

WA vs. Guerin Prep
Running Blog for the game.
Top of the First: 0-0
Ryan Kramer gets the start and looks sharp as he retires the Gators 1,2,3.
Bottom of the First: 0-0
Guerin’s starter shows a good fast ball in retiring Brandys and McNally. Sandberg is able to get a single off him, but is picked off at first. During the game I was joined by members of the girls soccer team, shout out to Kristen Morency, Allie Witt, Crystal Thomas, and Blythe Todd. Allie wanted the Warriors to hit a grand slam when no one was on base and Blythe wanted me to say she hit a home run, but she did not. Sorry Blythe.
Top of the Second: 0-0
Kramer goes 1,2,3 has not allowed a hit yet and has one strike out. The soccer girls are making fun of how I am wearing brown shoes with black socks, seriously? I am a guy so just give me a break.
Bottom of the Second: 2-0
Swaney doubles and then steals third base, Joiner then grounds out to bring Swaney home. McKenna hits a double and is later driven home by Lochridge who hit a single. Warriors take a 2-0 lead.
Top of the Third: 2-0
Kramer continues to dominate the Gator bats, does not allow a run.
Bottom of the Third: 5-0
Warriors have another big inning! Brandys hits a triple and Swaney is walked and both score due to Joiner’s single. Joiner has three RBIs right now! Then McKenna drives Joiner home by hitting a single. Warriors score three runs and increase the lead to 5-0.
Top of the Fourth: 5-1
Kramer starts out the inning allowing three singles one of them allowing a run. He gets a runner out by catching him in a run down and then gets a ground out and fly ball to end the inning. 5-1 Warriors.
 Bottom of the Fourth: 5-1
McNally hits a single but no runs are scored. Molly, Sierra, and Sequoia join in on making fun of my attire. Sheesh, Mrs. Kuppler was bad enough…. J
Top of the Fifth: 5-1
The inning begins with a single but then Kramer retires the other three batters. If making fun of my attire was not bad enough Molly makes fun of my blog too… ouch
Bottom of the Fifth:  7-1
Warriors tack on two more runs this inning. Swaney leads off the inning with a single and then steals second base. JD Joiner continues his big day with his fourth RBI of the day. McKenna singles, Boggs walks then McNally grounds into fielder’s choice bringing home Joiner. Warriors tack on two more runs.
Top of the Sixth: 7-1
Kramer once again keeps the Gators bats from scoring. A fantastic outing from Ryan Kramer today only allowed one run and gets the win.
Bottom of the Sixth: 8-1
Tate Fritz drilled a home run to left and sealed the win for the Warriors.
Top of the Seventh: 8-2
Luke Thorson gets to close the game for Warriors and pitched pretty well! He allowed one run but ultimately closed out the win for the Warriors. The Warriors improve to 7-1 in state for Coach Byrne with today’s win.

Thanks to strong pitching from Ryan Kramer and a huge day from JD Joiner the Warriors win their third in a row. Next game is against Thursday against Walther Lutheran at 430.

Warriors Slaughter Brooks Prep

My Running Blog for the game.

WA vs. Brooks Prep
Top of the First: 0-0
Enger gets the start and begins with a shaky start. He allows a single then the runner steals second, then allows a walk. With runners on first and second he gets a ground ball moving the runner to third. Then with runners on second and third he gets a strike out and a ground out. No runs.Of course the one day I wear a sweatshirt its 80 degrees outside.
Bottom of the First: 3-0 Warriors
Sandberg and McNally walk then Brandys pounds a three run home run to left. The Warriors are off to a good start.
Top of the Second: 3-0
After a shaky first, Enger comes out and goes 1,2,3.
Bottom of the Second: 5-0
The start the inning, Cousins flies out, McKenna walks, and then Boggs flies out. Alec Lochridge then dug in a pounded a two run homer to right. This was not any old homer though; it hit the home plate umpires car! Brooks Prep’s catcher asked if it was his car and the ump replied “no it’s my wife’s car, thank God!” That’s the quote of the game right there.
Top of the Third: 5-0
Derek gets two ground outs and strikes out one, looks very strong. McNally starts the conversation about the car and the ump responds, “Gosh I am in trouble now!”
Bottom of the Third: 6-0
McNally grounds out, Brandys gets a bunt hit then steal second and is later thrown out stealing third, Fritz gets walked and moves to third on a past ball, Swaney then walks, a balk is then called on the pitcher bringing Tate home, and to end the inning Kramer strikes out.
Top of the Fourth: 6-0
Jerry Budzisz gets in the game and goes 1,2,3. Atta boy Jerry here is your shout out you have been bugging me about. I begin to notice a sunburn developing on the back of my neck. Last game I nearly froze to death and two days later I have a sun burn, who would have thought.

Bottom of the Fourth: 10-0
The Warriors begin to run and hide now. McKenna had a solo home run then Boggs and Lochridge walked, Sandberg and McNally both got hits driving them in. Nate Jones comes in for Brandys, is walked, and is then driven in by Swaney’s single.  Now I took a break for one batter and during this time I had my friend Davis cover the game for me, this is what he wrote.
“Boggs waited until there was a fourth ball thrown, and when the umpire called walk Boggs walked to first base (the first of four bases) (The fourth base is called home)”
That is why I am blogging and not him…
Top of the Fifth: 10-0
Jerry finishes the game and the Warriors slaughter Brooks Prep. Not literally just beat them by ten runs.
